Your move-in day checklist
An organised first hour can prevent weeks of small problems. Check the room, the handover and the practical rules while the landlord or manager is available.

Ask how the building works
- Get the waste collection point, sorting rules and collection times from the manager or district.
- Ask which bills you pay directly and which are included in management charges.
- Write down the heating controls and any building-specific safety instructions.
Finish the administrative side
- Check the residence-address reporting route and deadline promptly.
- Update the address used for school, work and important notices.
- Put the contract, inspection photos and receipts in the same secure folder.
A little Korean goes a long way
- 입주 전에 있던 흠집이에요. — This damage was here before I moved in.

Jeonse, wolse and the real cost of a room
A low monthly rent can hide a large deposit or extra charges. Compare the whole arrangement before choosing a room type.
Finding a room without rushing the decision
Use online listings to build a shortlist, then verify the property and the person handling the contract. A good photograph is a starting point, not a check.
What to check before signing a Korean lease
The important numbers and promises belong in the written contract. Slow down at the signature stage, even if the room looks right.
Ask these questions about your rental deposit
A deposit can be the largest payment you make when settling in. Treat the return arrangements as part of choosing the home, not something to discuss later.
