A Korean SIM: data access is not identity verification
A plan that gets you online may not support every Korean sign-up or identity check. Decide what you need before comparing the cheapest data offer.

For a short visit
- Check whether the plan includes voice calls and SMS or only data.
- Confirm device compatibility, activation timing and how long the plan lasts.
- Keep a way to contact the provider if setup fails after arrival.
For a longer stay
- Ask which identity and residence documents the provider requires.
- If you need phone-based identity verification, ask whether that specific plan supports it.
- Keep your registered name consistent with your identity documents.
Before agreeing to a contract
- Compare the full price, data conditions and any recurring payment.
- Ask about cancellation, renewal and what happens when you leave Korea.
- Keep the contract and a working support contact rather than only a screenshot of the advertisement.
A little Korean goes a long way
- 문자 수신이 가능한가요? — Can I receive text messages?
- 본인인증에 사용할 수 있나요? — Can I use this for identity verification?

Find something local to do beyond sightseeing
A small neighbourhood programme can be easier to join than a major festival. Look for an activity you can attend comfortably and understand well enough to enjoy.
Find a library you can actually use each week
A nearby library can be a useful place to read, study and find local programmes. Borrowing, seat booking and digital access may each have different rules.
Opening a bank account: call the branch first
A short call can save a second trip. Ask the branch what it needs for your status and the purpose of the account, rather than arriving with a generic list.
Rubbish and recycling: ask about your building
The right bag is only half the answer. The collection place, day and method can differ by district and building.
